Day 8: Headed to Thunder Bay...the story of the 3 Bears and the Moose on the Loose!

We left Marathon this morning under cloudy skies wearing leathers and rain suits and that seemed to keep the rain away. Within the first hour, we spotted the moose on the loose standing on the roadside watching us as we rode by. The moose headed back to the woods when we rode by but Keith and Jeanette pulled over and lured the moose back to the road. We are still not sure how they pulled it off but it worked and we have great pictures as proof. Later down the road we encountered the 3 bears, Momma, Papa and baby bear but not necessarily in that order! The first bear encounter was fairly close as it ran out in the road in front of the bikes. It's amazing to see the wildlife at close range. By afternoon, we came upon the Augabason Falls & gorge - very beautiful! After a fuel stop, we did a Canadian Fire Drill and switched up riders. Keith put leathers on for the ride and after about 20 minutes we came across Eagle Canyon Adventures so we checked it out. This is the home of Canada's longest suspension bridge (600 ft) across Eagle Canyon & hangs 152 ft above the canyon floor. The second bridge (300 ft) is 125 feet above the canyon floor.

(see www.eaglecanyonadventures.ca) Out of the six of us that took the hike, four of us walked across the swaying bridges, we won't name names but Keith and Tim passed on this adventure. Tim said someone needed to stay behind just in case we didn't make it back...someone had to ride the Harleys home. Eagle Canyon also is home to the longest zip line in Canada. Marilyn and Laura decided that they needed 40 seconds of pure excitement - what a rush!!
The 2 videos below were taken with Randy's phone and so you will need to lay on your side to watch them. The first one is of Laura and the 2nd one is of Marilyn. Finally we arrived at our destination, Thunder Bay, and stopped by the Harley Dealer to pick up our Circle Tour pins & T-shirts. It's amazing how long the days are up north - we had sunlight until almost 11PM! We are enjoying ourselves but ready for a good night's sleep! We've logged about 2200 miles..
